It was back in May when Steve Burton shocked his fans with news that he and his wife, Sheree (Gustin) Burton, had separated. Now comes word that the actor has filed to officially end his 23-year marriage.

It was TMZ that broke the news of Burton, who can be seen as of today in the second installment of Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem on Peacock+ reprising his role as Harris Michaels, officially filing for divorce.

The site wrote, “According to the docs, obtained by TMZ, Steve lists March 1 as the date of separation…and he’s citing the usual ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason for the split.” They also added that Burton is seeking joint legal and physical custody of the kids.

It was back on May 4 that Soap Hub wrote about Steve Burton responding to the internet rumors that his wife was pregnant. “I wanted to clear something up,” he wrote in a statement on Instagram. “Sheree and I are separated. She recently announced that she’s expecting her 4th child. The child is not mine. We are still co-parenting our three beautiful kids. We would appreciate privacy at this time. Much luv, Steve.”

The couple was married back on January 16, 1999, and they have three kids — Makena Grace, born in 2003, Jack Marshall in 2006, and Brooklyn Faith, who was born in 2014. Anyone who looks at Burton’s social media can see he’s a hands-on father and continues to be there for them, even as he handles a busy schedule.

Since leaving his role as Jason Morgan on General Hospital late last year, the actor has shot Beyond Salem in between dates on the road with his close friend and former GH co-star Bradford Anderson (Damian Spinelli) in their comedy act, Stone Cold and the Jackel. Soap Hub wishes Burton all the best during this difficult time.
